The Story
Stand in Solidarity with Tibet
Please join us as we Stand in Solidarity with Tibet on the occasion of Human Rights Day, on 10 December 2012.
Since 2009 there has been a continuing wave of self-immolations in Tibet. 89 Tibetans have set themselves on fire as a form of political protest so far. 25 self-immolations occurred in November alone.
Sadly, despite the increasing number of self-immolations, the international community remains largely unaware of what is going on inside Tibet. The Chinese government has responded to the self-immolations with further repressive policies, and sentencing of individuals suspected of having shared information regarding the self-immolations with the outside world. We need your help, through grassroots support, to ensure that accurate information about events in Tibet is widely disseminated and accessible to all.
“Despite our repeated appeals not to take drastic actions, self-immolations continue in Tibet. Therefore, I appeal to the international community and governments to stand for justice by answering the universal aspirations of Tibetans in Tibet: the return of His Holiness the Dalai Lama to Tibet and freedom for Tibetans,” said Sikyong Dr. Lobsang Sangay, the democratically-elected leader of the Tibetan people and the political successor to His Holiness the Dalai Lama of Tibet.
